The Discovery Plus docuseries The Deadliest Catch 18th season premiered on 19 April 2022. And like old times, viewers were reunited with crab fishermen Wild Bill, Jake Anderson, Sig Hansen, and Josh Harris as they aboard fishing vessels in the Bering Sea during the Alaskan king crab and snow crab fishing seasons. Rip Carlton appears on Season 18 of Deadliest Catch in place of Todd Kochutin who months prior tragically lost his life aboard the Patty Lee.
With 46 years of experience under his belt and counting, Carlton promises he has more than enough experience to withstand the rain; as he takes up the mantle of skipper that Todd left behind.
When talking to Bend Bulletin, Captain Rip revealed that he had been asked to join the series several times over the years. But, every time he had said no. Because he did not have the desire to do it; until he was convinced by the show’s executive producer. But, the kicker was his son, Derek who said “…dad, in 20 years when you’re gone, I’ll be able to stick that little memory stick in the computer and show my kids and go, that’s my dad.” Also, it was then easy for him to decide to go for it because he already knew all the guys from the show.
Speaking of ‘what happened on his boat this season?’, he said that anybody that watches the show is going to be amazed.
At the same time, Rip had this other role to play. He said he tried to protect his crew on this journey at all costs. After suffering the loss of a crew member last fishing season, Rip said, he and his team worked hard believing they are doing this to honor their friend.
Rip Carlton’s Net Worth
Rip Carlton reportedly had more than $1.5 million as his net worth as of 2022. Also known for his appearance in Tales of the Sea (2017), Rip’s salary as a fisherman ranged as high as $100,000 and as low as $12,000, as per Ziprecruiter’s estimation.
He was 18 years old when he took his first trip to Alaska for fishing crab. “Eye-opening” is what he calls the experience, looking back. He had just gone to earn some money to go race cars in Europe; he absolutely knew nothing about fishing. And when guys around told him there was a lot of money on this and it was hard and really dangerous; and he was like ‘oh that sounds perfect’.
Rip has been in here ever since. He went out on a boat that year, started out as a deckhand; befriended Norwegians; and worked his way up to captain.
There was also a time when he bought race cars. He raced up and down the West Coast for eight years and thought he was going to be a professional race car driver. But, he never quite got there.

Indeed! Rip Carlton is married. And so, when he is not helming the Patricia Lee, he is with his wife in Bend, a small city on the Deschutes River, in Oregon. Their home of extensive wood and stone-work throughout is a 3014 square ft home; that has an additional 630 square feet in the carriage house above the detached garage.
His wife’s name is Cindy King Carlton and they have been married since 22 May 2021.
Cindy, according to her Facebook BIO, has been a Central Oregonian since 1978; and she is sporty, sophisticated, stylish, and practical. And with her husband, she shares an adult son, 23-year-old, named Derek Carlton. Also, Cindy is very supportive of her husband. She knows it all, things like how Rip lights up like a Christmas tree when he is getting ready to go fishing, among other things.
The Carltons appear to be closely knitted as a family. And recently they invited their friends over for the celebration of the season premiere of Rip’s new show.
Not to miss, Rip’s wife has also often mentioned Nathan, her other son, who is maybe only her son and not Rip’s.
