Meet Rob McArthur, Amazing Race’s Second Deaf Contestant In Its History
Rob McArthur is one of the contestants on season 35 of The Amazing Race but not an ordinary contestant. He is the second-ever deaf contestant in the show’s history. Rob teamed with his son Corey McArthur on this journey.
One particular exam that truly measures tenacity, humor, and teamwork is The Amazing Race. The program presents viewers with dynamic duos from a variety of backgrounds season after season. The father-son duo of Rob and Corey McArthur stands out among the interesting combinations in the 35th season with a touching tale of bonding, tenacity, and conquering adversity.
Their dynamic gives the difficulties posed by The Amazing Race a unique blend of youthful vigor and expertise. Rob’s job as a teaching assistant at the California School for the Deaf in Riverside, along with Corey’s career goals and love of sports, make them the ideal team for the marathon! Rob McArthur is married to his wife April McArthur, also deaf. It is not clear when they married but they are still happily married to each other as of 2023.
Since January 2023, April has served as the new superintendent of the California School for the Deaf. As the eighth site superintendent in the institution’s history, she will guide it in achieving its goal of fostering student success while upholding its essential principles.
April is not new to CSDR; this is not her first role as Superintendent. Since August of 2022, she has served as the Alternative Curriculum Education (ACE) principal. April was an elementary principal and the ASL-English bilingual director of the Washington School for the Deaf/Washington State Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth before taking on the role of ACE principal on campus. There, she trained and consulted legislators around the state of Washington as well as staff members of school districts and their families.
April graduated with a master’s degree in Teaching and Learning: ASL and English Bilingual Education from the University of California, San Diego, and an administrator’s credential from Washington State University in Vancouver. She attended California State University, Northridge to earn her undergraduate degree.

The deaf school observed Deaf Community Cultural Week from Monday, September 25, through Friday, September 29, in honor of the program. The World Federation of the Deaf’s 2023 theme, “An Amazing World Where Deaf People Everywhere Can Sign Anywhere,” served as the inspiration for the celebration.
