Steve Cowling On The Great British Sewing Bee
BBC Two’s The Great British Sewing Bee returned for its 8th installment on April 27, 2022, and it saw a group of 12 talented home sewers including Steve Cowling ready to impress judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant.
Joining Brogan this season were his co-contestants — Man Yee, Annie, Cristian, Mitch Bridgewater, Marni, Steve, Debra, Richy, Gill, Chichi, and Angela.
Unfortunately, Mitch was the first one to be sent home, with Steve placing 11th.
For the first round, the contestants had 2 hours and 45 minutes to make a mini skirt with two patch pockets piping around the edge. And sadly, for Mitch and Steve, it didn’t go well!
On the other hand, Angela, Marni, and Brogan were able to impress the judges with the demanded task and placed first, second and third respectively.
All excited for the premiere, Steve took it to his IG on April 19 to write, “Flaunting my dungarees (and doing some sewing) on TV soon@britishsewingbee. Starts next Wednesday at 8 pm BBC1. Mad stuff really”
Steve Cowling Girlfriend
Steve Cowling’s girlfriend Alexandra Neill was with him ever before he took up sewing professionally. The two started their story in April 2006 and have been on countless adventures since then.
“Well, I may have had to tap out halfway on Saturday. And our hotel might have been a literal dumpster. And my knee might be howling at me. But this weekend has been alright you know,” Steve wrote over his IG in May 2019 flaunting a pic from one of their travels.
Likewise, his girlfriend Alexandra took it to her IG on their 13 anniversary (i.e. on April 20, 2019) to post a pic with her “favorite person in the whole world” Steve captioned, “13 years together and all he can say is “You’re not posting something lame are you?”
Talking a little about Alexandra, she received her master’s degree in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Securities from Newcastle University in October 2020. And the last we check, she was working for her Ph.D. in Food waste.

His services ranged anywhere from £32 to £45.
Also, Steve is the owner of Commen Athletics, a running apparel store. As per their official website, their mission is to “create rad, high-quality clothes for runners.”
And for those of you wondering, Yes! It’s “Commen Athletics”. Their store’s name is a defunct spelling of the word “common”, which Steve wanted to use in the mathematical sense of belonging to more than one quantity. “Running belongs to all of us and brings together so many people, and that was something I wanted to pay homage to with the name,” he explained.
If Steve wasn’t a running coach, he would have been in the music industry today. In fact, when Steve was a teenager he played bass guitar in a punk band.
Reportedly, it was only after the 2020 lockdown Steve decided to take up sewing as a hobby and he’s never looked back. According to him, finding sewing was like starting to run — once he started, he couldn’t stop.
His sewing inspirations include — Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and mid-90s NBA fashion, Battenberg personified, and “Zapp Brannigan spending a summer holiday on a dude ranch.”
