Sydney Buck On Hulu’s Secret Chef
Sydney Buck is one of the ten contestants on Hulu’s Secret Chef. Ten competitors from all around the country compete in the most recent cooking competition series on the streaming service for a chance to win $100,000. The group, which consists of gourmet chefs, social media stars, and home cooks, is competing to win the grand prize.
A naughty animated talking chef’s hat guided contestants in “Secret Chef” as they navigate a series of cooking challenges inside a hidden underground kitchen labyrinth connected by a network of conveyor belts. Chefs judged each other’s finished dishes in blind-tasting tests, making the voting process secret. The show’s executive director is Chef David Chang. Produced by Wheelhouse’s Spoke Studios, Majordomo Media, and Vox Media Studios.
“I think the experience was amazing, I got to meet so many amazing chefs, you know, and to be in a room with that many talented people is just a really inspiring thing,” the chef shared of her experience being on the show with QNS. “I had the best time and I can’t wait for everyone to watch it. It’s a wild ride.”
Sydney Buck Career
Sydney Buck is a self-taught chef who learned from her family members and all sorts of cooking media. She loves to experiment and develop new dishes by mixing different flavor profiles. Before opening BuckWild Kitchen, her own private chef service in Ridgewood, Buck worked full-time as the executive chef of the wine bar Cherry on Top at 379 Suydam St. in Brooklyn.
“A lot of my friends are like graphic designers or social workers, but I think moving to Ridgewood, I started to meet more people that were in the industry, like bartenders or chefs, just from going out in the area,” Sydney told QNS. “I think a lot of people that are chefs or bartenders live in this area, and I slowly started to become friends with people that are in my industry.”
Sydney, who spent seven years working in the beauty industry, decided to pursue cooking full-time in June 2020. When she was struggling to advance in a profession in beauty, her friends’ encouragement—especially during the pandemic—inspired her to consider cooking as a full-time career.
“… I’ve just gotten so far in the past year from just pushing myself with what I’m doing and to see how far I’ve come is really important to me,” Sydney told the outlet. She hopes “to open her own community cafe, cooking delicious and affordable meals for the neighborhood.”
