Gina nailed “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry at her blind audition. Kelly Clarkson made the initial turn, followed by Niall Horan. “You had me in the beginning,” Kelly said to Gina. Niall was able to identify Gina’s voice by the “feel” and “character” it had. In the end, Gina decided to make Niall her coach.
Gina closed out night one of the two-part finales on Monday by performing Sinéad O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U. She also took on a version of Taylor Swift’s Style earlier in the broadcast. “I’m very emotional right now. I’m just excited that everything went well, and everyone’s performances were so good,” Gina said following the performances.
Before she found out the results, Miles said her focus shifted from competition to celebration. “I really just want to celebrate with everybody,” she said. “It’s been a really long experience but one of the best times of my whole life. I want to celebrate. Because yesterday we were a little stressed. And today, I want to be more fun and relaxed, and just have a nice day. Probably going to eat pizza because I wanted to eat pizza last night, and I didn’t eat when I got back because I just wanted to sleep. So pizza today and party today.”
Gina gave a wonderful rendition of Sinead’s song, making Niall a jubilant coach. She and Grace West were left standing in The Voice’s 23rd season. Before announcing that Gina had won the competition, host Carson Daly said it was the narrowest margin of victory in The Voice’s history.
