Yuri Guaii has been doing drag for more than eight years starting from 18. But back then, the drag scene was not an easy ground to break. Despite spending months developing her make-up and sewing skills within the confines of her bedroom, she could not get booked for more than Halloween gigs. And so, she really gave her all to be where she is today, as one of Auckland’s most talented drag make-up artists. So, it is not any surprise that she has found herself on the main stage of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under. It was bound to happen one way or the other.

Yuri Guaii On Drag Race Down Under Season 2
Drag Race Down Under Season 2 premiered on 30 July 2022 introducing some of the very best of Australia and New Zealand’s drag queens as its new cast of queens, promising that there is going to be more sass and shenanigans alongside an increment to last year’s 30K AUD grand prize. Yes, they were right. The stakes are higher with a grand prize of 50K AUD.
So, after Kita Mean took the crown in the inaugural season, Yuri Guaii is among 10 more queens who have arrived to battle it out.
Having studied fashion design, Yuri brings her incredible sewing skills to the table. She has this history of creating all her own show-stopping drag looks.
She said that she is just super happy and excited about this whole process with Raul Paul. She was at her friend Flor’s house having a drink when her phone rang. But she did not answer because she hates talking on the phone. “If it’s important they’ll call back”, she thought and thankfully, they did. The rest is history.
Yuri, as well as her fellow queens including Kween Kong, were handpicked for the roles by RuPaul herself.
As for Yuri, she had a good start on the show securing a high position in the first episode.
Yuri Guaii Career
At 17, Yuri Guaii met her first drag queen DeeDee Vine outside of Family Bar and she was so intrigued by her beauty and confidence to express herself the way she was. Moreover, at the time RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6 was airing and her partner at the time said she should give drag a go since she had this big fascination with drag. And so, she for the first time realized that she was attracted to drag and she could build a career out of it. The next year, therefore, was the start of her drag era. But of course, it was not easy especially getting rid of the “spooky girl” stereotype and going farther.
Yet, she found ways and became successful. Studying fashion design helped of course.
Lately, she allowed the KAM Talent Agency to manage her career.
