Dennis was the son of Elizabeth Coulston Rowe of Lancaster. He had three brothers; Aaron P. Jr., husband of Shelva Rowe of Lancaster, Bruce T., husband of Nancy Rowe of Little Britain, Craig C., husband of Patricia Rowe of Mountville; and a niece Amanda and nephew Derrick Rowe.
Dennis was a 1979 graduate of Lancaster Country Day School. After high school, in 1982, he graduated from Duke University with a degree in English. Upon graduation, he worked in the Duke Medical Center Library.

In “The Staircase” Dennis Rowe informed district attorney Jim Hardin, that he had s** with Michael anonymously at a s*x shop. When Jim asked Dennis about other affairs of Michael Peterson, he noted that Tyrone Lacour might have had involvement with Michael.
Dennis and Michael’s wife Kathleen Peterson were friends who grew up on the same block. They grew up other kids in the city neighborhood spent summers playing ball games in the street and board games on their front porches. Kathleen left Lancaster to attend Duke University and years later, Dennis also left Rowe.
Kathleen worked in Durham and made a name for herself as a leader in the arts community, hosting fund-raising parties in the mansion she shared with her novelist husband, Michael Peterson. Likewise, Dennis also made a name for himself in the world of art. He worked as a designer of formal gowns and specialty pillows.
In December 2001, Kathleen died at the age of 48.
Naomi Nagy, who grew up on the same block shared, “This was a family block,” she recalled. “Traffic wasn’t as bad and they played baseball and softball in the street. They had look-outs of course. Dennis taught our son, Michael, how to play soccer goalie”.
She added, “The Rowe boys were a very well-mannered, young family and our children were back and forth all the time”.
Dennis had prepared to testify but never called as a witness to the would-be mayor Michael Peterson’s “dirty tricks”.

“He doesn’t appear to have any regard for anyone,” Person County Sheriff Dennis Oakley said. “He’s a conniving type of person.”
Officials revealed to North Carolina newspaper reporters that the suspect, Tyrone Joseph Lacour, 43 (in 2004), was charged with a 2001 homicide, but those charges were later dismissed.
Tyrone and his roommate allegedly argued while burning trash in one case, according to authorities. He said that his roommate doused him in gasoline and set himself on fire. He was convicted of severely beating another guy in California in 1999, according to North Carolina investigators.
